Transcription
Alles, Craig [clipping] 26 Apr 1945 [image] Pte Craig Allen, Killed in action [clipping] 19 Apr 1945 PTE. CRAIG ALLES Word has been received by Mr. and Mrs. R.V. Alles, 827 Queen's Boulevard, that their son, Pte. Craig Alles, has been killed in action overseas. For reasons of military security mention of the unit with which he was serving, when he gave his life, cannot be made. Pte. Alles was well known among the younger people of the Twin City. He was a graduate of the K-W Collegiate and was attending Waterloo College at the time of his enlistment, where he was a member of the C.O.T.C. He was also a member of St. John's Cadets. Anxious to be on active service, he preferred not to wait for his commission and joined up July 29, 1942 with the Scots Fusiliers (Active) and went overseas Oct. 8 of the same year. Shortly after arriving overseas he transferred to the unit with which he met his death. His last letter home indicated that, with the members of his unit, he had been in the battle area for nine months and was expecting a leave shortly in lieu of a leave cancelled in January. At the K-W Collegiate he was a member of the senior rugby team and active in class activities. He was a member of Trinity United Church. Born at Ailsa Craig, 22 years ago, he leaves besides his parents, one sister, Dorothea.
