Private James Stanley Percy Tones was born on May 12,1886 in Altrincham, Cheshire, England. He was the husband of Alice Tones. They lived at 61 West Main St., Galt, Ontario.
He enlisted on January 11, 1916 in Galt with the 111th Battalion. At the time of enlistment, he was a salesman, married and a member of the Church of England. His regimental service number was 730364. His soldier card indicates that he was employed by the C. Turnbull Company of Galt.
Overseas, he served in the 75th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action during the Battle of Vimy Ridge on April 9, 1917.
He was buried in the Givenchy Road Canadian Cemetery in Neuville-St. Vaast, France.
