William Connolly was born on October 1, 1895, in London. His family immigrated to Canada in 1906. He was a telephone lineman by trade and had no prior military service.
His mother, Elizabeth Connolly, was listed as his next of kin on his enlistment paper. She lived in Burlington, Ontario. Mr. Connolly was a member of the Church of England and was single.
William enlisted to be part of the war effort on Feburary 23, 1916 in Dundas, Ontario. His regimental number is 784309 and he was part of the army in the Canadian Infantry. When he enlisted he was part of the 60th Battalion. Over the course of the war he was switched to the 123rd Battalion, and ended his service with the 129th Battalion.
William survived the war and returned to Canada on March 17, 1927. He left from Southampton, England aboard the Melita and landed in St. John's, New Brunswick.
