A black and white print, on heavy cardboard, of fire fighters testing a new pump at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Queen Street South, Berlin (now Kitchener), Ontario. Two horse-drawn fire wagons and a numerous spectators can be seen in the picture. The firefighters are pumping water from Victoria Park and shooting a stream of water over the spire of St. Paul's Church.

Mistakenly labelled "St. Peter's" and "church fire, 1900s" on the back of photo. Date of image based in newspaper clipping appearing on page 256 of Hannes Schneider book. The water was pumped from the lake in Victoria Park. This photo is in poor condition. There are thumb-tack holes and worn corners on the image.

Notes
Charles Schneuker was born in Berlin, Ontario on 4 May 1857, the son of Conrad Schneuker and Barbara Abel. He operated a photographic studio from 1873 to 1896 and then again from 1899 to 1901 in Berlin, Ontario. He married Emily Louisa Beaumont on 20 September 1886 in Berlin, Ontario. Charles died in Woodstock, Ontario on 29 July 1918. His 29 July 1918 obituary in the Woodstock Daily Sentinel noted that he was 61 years of age at the time of his death and had been a commercial photographer for the Canada Furniture Company. The cause of death was noted as heart failure. Schneuker was survived by his widow, 4 daughters: Louise of Grimsby; Lotta and Esther of Toronto; and Alice at home; and one son, Charles, who was employed by the Grand Trunk Railway Company.

The H. Krug Furniture Company was founded in 1887 on the corner of Ahrens and Breithaupt Streets in Berlin, Ontario, by Hartman Krug. The company initially produced frames, dining rooms sets, and rockers, but by 1908 production included all types of furniture, with a specialty in chair-making. The word "furniture" is spelled incorrectly in title on lithograph. Please see P007081, P007082, P007083, and P007084 for H. Krug Furniture Company factory photographs.

Based on a search of city directories in the Grace Schmidt Room, A. Weseloh Boots and Clothing was located at 45 King Street East from 1901-1911, but moved to 42 King St. East in 1912. It is believed that this image is dated between 1905 and 1911. The street railway was electrified in 1895. The print is glued onto black scrapbook paper.
