According to a 9 February 2008 Kitchener Waterloo Record article, the 17 May 1974 flood in Galt, Ontario caused over 6.7 million dollars worth of damage and resulted in a provincial inquiry that found no fault with the Grand River Conservation Authority's actions during the flooding. However, many recommendations were put forth, including upgraded flood warning systems, improved flood forecasting capabilities, stricter controls over construction nearby waterways, and better water management policies.
This photograph appears on page 37 of the 1974 Waterloo Historical Society annual volume. The image is credited as belonging to the Grand River Conservation Authority collection.
