Private James Abbott, Service No. 528517
Born in Carlow Ireland, James later resided at the Coombe Home in Hespeler, Ontario. He was a 22 year old student in Strathroy when he enlisted with the Number 2 Field Artillery Depot on 19 Jan 1916 at London Ontario. His next of kin was shown as Mrs. Emily Shepherd, sister, 56 Scollard Street, Toronto, ON on his attestation paper.
He served in the Canadian Army Medical Corps at the CAMC Hospital at Havre, France. There, he became ill and was invalided to England with appendicitis. He returned to Canada and was discharged on 15 May 1919. James died on 26 May 1922 at the Byron Sanitarium. His death was attributed to a 'lingering illness' from the war. He is buried in the Strathroy Cemetery.

He enlisted February 1, 1917 with the Canadian Army Service Corps and transferred to the 27th Canadian Battalion.
He was killed instantly by a shell April 9, 1918 at Bellecourt.

Enlisted October 2, 1915 at London with 71st Infantry Battalion. He transferred to 10th Canadian Light Trench Mortar Battery for service in France and then for commission in Royal Air Force.

Born at Galt, October 10, 1897 and educated at the Public School and Collegiate Institute of Galt. Unmarried.
He was discharged February 6, 1919 and lives in Hespeler with his mother, Mrs. Alex Baird, Drawer M, Hespeler.
He served overseas from April 11, 1916 to January 10, 1919. He was wounded at the Somme on November 18, 1916 and at Hill 70 on August 16, 1917.

Baker, George William
Private.
George was born on May 28, 1894 in Epsom, Surrey, England. He came to Canada on the ship "Southwark" in 1904 at age 10. He lived at the Coombe Home for boys in Hespeler. He enlisted at Warkworth, Ontario on Nov. 25, 1915 and served with the 87th Battalion Canadian Expeditionary Force.
His next of kin was Mrs. H. Fairs of Tillsonburg. He married Theresa Morris Oct. 25, 1920 at Galt. They had 5 children (Harold, Kory, George, Gladys and Helen) and resided at 76 Beverly St., and later 39 Rich St.in Galt.
He married Florence Henry later on in life, after his first wife passed away. He died August 3, 1956 and is buried in the Veteran's section of Woodlawn Cemetery in Guelph, Ontario.

He enlisted on December 3, 1915 at Montreal, Quebec. Baker was sent overseas with the 5th University Company and later joined the Princess Patricia's Light Infantry in the field on May 12, 1917. He was wounded and taken prisoner of war at Avion, July 3, 1917. He died in captivity on July 6, 1917.
Private Girtle Louis Baker was the son of John and Frances Baker of Hespeler, Ontario. He was born on February 18, 1888 in Hespeler.
He is buried in the Cabaret-Rouge British Cemetery in Souchez, France.
