Sapper Arthur Ashcroft (Regimental/Service #730347/1099655), enlisted on January 10, 1916 in Galt, Ontario with the 111th Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He re-enlisted again on February 13, 1917 in Guelph, Ontario with the 256th Railway Construction Battalion, Canadian Expeditionary Force. He was born on June 8, 1898 in Leeds, Yorkshire England. His next of kin was listed as Elizabeth Ashcroft (mother) of 149 King Street East, Kitchener, ON. At the time of his enlistment, he was not married and his occupation was labourer. He listed his religion as Church of England. His unit sailed from Halifax on the SS Missanabie on March 26, 1917 and arrived in England on April 7, 1917. He was transferred to the 10th Canadian Railway Troops on May 31, 1917 and served with the 9th Canadian Railway Troops in France.
