Bean, Howard Leslie 2nd Lieutenant. Enlisted June 1916 with the Infantry (Toronto University Training Company). He transferred to the Imperial Army, 296th Cornwall Siege Battery (Royal Garrison Artillery). Methodist. Born August 12, 1897 in Wilmot Township, Waterloo County. He was educated at the Public School S.S.No.4 Wilmot, took his matriculation at New Hamburg and went to The Stratford Normal School. Isaac Bean of New Hamburg is his next of Kin. He was on active service in France during the autumn of 1918 with Rawlinson's 4th Army. Florence D. Wood, New Hamburg, Ontario. R.R. No.1.

Bean, Russell. Private. Russell Bean enlisted at New Hamburg, Ontario. George Allen Russell Bean (full name) was born August 11, 1890 in New Hamburg. His father's name was George Bean. Russell Bean was a lineman prior to being drafted into the army. His declaration was signed on February 25, 1918 in London Ontario. His Military Service ACT letter and number was AC 746161. After the war, Bean worked as a manager at the London House Hotel until 1960. He was also a member of the First Baptist Church of London. He passed away in London Ontario on January 7, 1963 and is buried in Woodland Cemetery in London.

Beilstein, Victor Hugo Private. Victor enlisted in Kitchener on March 20, 1916. He served with the 118th Battalion. His Regimental Number was 751529. His religion was Lutheran. Victor was born on January 22, 1898 in New Hamburg, Ontario. His parents are Henry Beilstein and Catherine Illing. The family lived in New Hamburg. Victor's father, Henry worked as a bookkeeper. There were no other children in the family. Following the war, Victor moved to the United States. He crossed the border to the United States at Buffalo, New York, on February 13, 1917. Victor married Josephine on April 18, 1934 in Savannah, Georgia. His wife was born February 25, 1898 in St. Nazaire France. Victor and his wife lived in Miami Beach. Victor worked as an accountant. They had no children. Victor died in February 1968. His last place of residence was Martin County, Florida.

Bier, Nile [clipping] 6 July 1944 PROMOTED IN ITALY Capt. Bier, according to information received by his parents, had been wounded June 24 but remained on duty with his unit, despite his injuries, and met his death a few days later. He was recently promoted to the rank of captain for his heroic action in the battle of Italy. Capt. Bier had seen action in both Sicily and Italy and has been on the fighting front for one year, being an officer in the Three Rivers Regiment with the famous 8th Army. Enlisting in the Canadian Armored Corps, London, June 1942, on the completion of his third year at the University of Western Ontario, Capt. Bier took his officer’s training at Brockville and Camp Borden. He left for overseas with rank of lieutenant, Dec. 30, 1942. Born in Wilmot Township, Capt. Bier came to New Hamburg with his parents when six years of age. He received his early education in New Hamburg and his high school education at the K-W Collegiate. He was taking an honor business administration course at the University of Western Ontario at the time of his enlistment. [note] Capt. Nile Bier, 26, son of Mr. and Mrs. C.N. Bier, New Hamburg

Brennaman, Erwin [clipping] 8 Mar 1945 PTE. ERWIN BRENNAMAN By Record Correspondent NEW HAMBURG, March 8 - Pte. Erwin Brennaman, 20, has been reported wounded while in action in Holland according to word received here yesterday by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Brennaman, of Wilmot Township. Before proceeding overseas in November, 1944, he trained at Chatham, Ipperwash, and Dundurn, Sask., and had been in Holland a month before reported wounded. He was employed as a farm hand previous to enlistment in January, 1944.
