Private James Wilson Aikens (Regimental/Service #54125), enlisted on December 7, 1914 in London, ON, with the 18th Battalion, Canadian Infantry (Western Ontario Regiment). He was born in Puslinch Township, Wellington County, Ontario on May 28, 1889, and is the son of Thomas H. and Adelaide E. (Paddock) Aikens of 2nd Concession in Puslinch, Ontario. At the time of his enlistment, he was not married and he worked as a lineman. His father, who at that time resided 849 Dundas Street in London, Ontario, was listed as his next of kin. He listed his religion as Presbyterian. James died on September 15, 1916, as a result of wounds he received in action at the Battle of the Somme. He was 27 years of age. Laid to rest at Contay British Cemetery in France. Grave reference II. B.12. His burial record with the Commonwealth Graves Commission shows the name "John Aikens".

McEachern, "Jerry" [clipping] 26 Sept 1944 Jerry McEachern Killed Fighting With the H.L.I. [image] Pte. Gerald "Jerry" Bertram McEachern, age 20, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. W.C. McEachern, of Killean station, R.R. 2, Puslinch, was killed in action on September 10. The tragic news was received Sunday by his parents. Pte. McEachern was serving on the Western Front with the H.L.I. of C. in which he had enlisted in November, 1942, and had gone overseas in June, 1943. Before enlisting he had worked in Galt at the Canadian Die Casters and had boarded in the city on Norfolk avenue for a year. He attended school at Cradbrook and also Killean and he had many friends in his home district and also in Galt. He used to play hockey and softball for the Killean teams. Pte. McEachern attended Knox's Presbyterian church in Galt. Besides his parents he is survived by one brother, L.A.C. Winston McEachern, R.C.A.F., who has been home on leave from Sidney, N.S., and leaves tomorrow to report back to duty.

McPherson, R.J. see also McIntosh, John A. [clipping] June 1940 [image] MAJ. R.J. McPHERSON Major Robert John McPherson is the acting second-in-command of the Highland Light Infantry of Canada. He has been with the regiment since his appointment as a 2nd lieutenant in 1931. He became a full lieutenant in 1932, a captain in 1934 and in 1937 received his majority command of B Company. Born on March 20, 1906, in Puslinch township, he was educated at Riverside school, the G.C.I. and the O.A.C. from where he graduated with the degree of B.S.A. At the O.A.C. he was in the C.O.T.C. for four years. Since his graduation he has farmed on the East River road and taken an active interest in militia matters. He is married and his wife lives on R.R. 5, Galt. In the last war, an uncle, Major A.J. McPherson, went overseas with a Regina Battalion. Another uncle, L. Amos was a driver with the 55th O.A.C. Battery in Guelph.
