Private James Abbott, Service No. 528517 Born in Carlow Ireland, James later resided at the Coombe Home in Hespeler, Ontario. He was a 22 year old student in Strathroy when he enlisted with the Number 2 Field Artillery Depot on 19 Jan 1916 at London Ontario. His next of kin was shown as Mrs. Emily Shepherd, sister, 56 Scollard Street, Toronto, ON on his attestation paper. He served in the Canadian Army Medical Corps at the CAMC Hospital at Havre, France. There, he became ill and was invalided to England with appendicitis. He returned to Canada and was discharged on 15 May 1919. James died on 26 May 1922 at the Byron Sanitarium. His death was attributed to a 'lingering illness' from the war. He is buried in the Strathroy Cemetery.

Anderson, T.R. See also Aksim, Victor E. [clipping] 5 Oct 1940 T.R. Anderson [image] Corporal T.R. (Shorty) Anderson enlisted on July 25, 1940, with the 24th Field Ambulance, R.C.A.M.C. Before going on active service he was a baker at Polly Perkins. Cpl. Anderson was born at Donegal, Ont., and he received his schooling in Atwood. He is stationed at Listowel, Bennett Barracks, where he is the first cook in the Officers' Mess. Cpl. Anderson lived in Galt a couple of years and is well known in Preston. He goes by the nickname of "Shorty." His wife and four daughters are living at 19 Kerr street. Photo Contributed.

Ashcroft, William [clipping] 12 October 1944 PTE. WILLIAM ASHCROFT Pte. Ashcroft suffered a triple fracture of the jaw when he was hit by a sniper in Italy on Sept. 18. He is recovering in a hospital somewhere in Italy. Born in Guelph, Pte. Ashcroft attended school in the city, and is well known here. His brother, Pte. Jack, also in the canadian Army, was born in Kitchener. Their father, Pte. Arthur Ashcroft, is stationed at Kingston with the Ordnance Corps. Pte. William Ashcroft enlisted with the 7th Field Ambulance early in 1941, and went overseas the latter part of that year, transferring to the 48th Highlanders, with whom he was fighting when he was wounded.

Baines, Albert Edward Private. Enlisted March 29, 1917 with 111th Battalion. Transferred to Canadian Army Medical Corps and 5th Reserve Battalion. Presbyterian. Born April 19, 1892 and educated at Peterborough, England. Married Lillian Williams on June 3, 1914 and has one child. Discharged November 11, 1918 and lives at 18 Richardson St., Galt, Ontario. He went overseas September 22, 1916. He was on draft to go to France but had to go to the hospital from February 1, 1918 to October 22, 1918 when he was invalided back to Canada. Since his return he lives at 18 Richardson St., Galt. Teddy Niebel, 12 Richardson St., Galt.
