Black and white group photograph of the 1896 Berlin Fire Brigade. The photograph is mounted on a mat. The phrase "Berlin Fire Brigade" appears in a ribbon drawn on the photograph, which is arched over the image of the firefighters. Above the word "Fire" in the top ribbon, flames can be seen. Two fire hoses, extending from the small upper left and right corner images, point toward the flames. An image of the Berlin fire station appears in the upper left hand corner, while an image of a fire wagon appears in the upper right hand corner. The year "1896" is written below the group of firefighters, who are numbered. A ribbon, which contains the names of the firefighters in the image, can be seen below the image of the firemen.
The firefighters have been identified as follows, by number: 1. Jacob E. Cook, 2. Aug. Hertel, 3, Joseph Wuest, 4. George Arndt, 5. Fred Langfield, 6. Aug. Schmiedel, 7. Daniel Boettger 8. Gustave May, 9. John Hebel (Haebel), 10. John Kidder, 11. John C. Karn, 12. Jacob Uhrig, 13. Louis Timm (Chief), 14. ?, 15. John Zinnkann and 16. Jacob B. Scharlach.
The names and numbers in the ribbon are very faint.
The left upper and right lower corners of the photograph are broken.

A black and white print, on heavy cardboard, of fire fighters testing a new pump at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Queen Street South, Berlin (now Kitchener), Ontario. Two horse-drawn fire wagons and a numerous spectators can be seen in the picture. The firefighters are pumping water from Victoria Park and shooting a stream of water over the spire of St. Paul's Church.
Mistakenly labelled "St. Peter's" and "church fire, 1900s" on the back of photo.
Date of image based in newspaper clipping appearing on page 256 of Hannes Schneider book.
The water was pumped from the lake in Victoria Park.
This photo is in poor condition. There are thumb-tack holes and worn corners on the image.
