Black and white group photograph of the 1896 Berlin Fire Brigade. The photograph is mounted on a mat. The phrase "Berlin Fire Brigade" appears in a ribbon drawn on the photograph, which is arched over the image of the firefighters. Above the word "Fire" in the top ribbon, flames can be seen. Two fire hoses, extending from the small upper left and right corner images, point toward the flames. An image of the Berlin fire station appears in the upper left hand corner, while an image of a fire wagon appears in the upper right hand corner. The year "1896" is written below the group of firefighters, who are numbered. A ribbon, which contains the names of the firefighters in the image, can be seen below the image of the firemen.
The firefighters have been identified as follows, by number: 1. Jacob E. Cook, 2. Aug. Hertel, 3, Joseph Wuest, 4. George Arndt, 5. Fred Langfield, 6. Aug. Schmiedel, 7. Daniel Boettger 8. The names and numbers in the ribbon are very faint.

Six men are seen standing in the backrow, five are seated on a settee (the man in the middle is wearing a badge), two are sitting on the floor in front - a sign between them reads "Rescue No. 1, Berlin." There is a Valentine & Sons postcard number in the lower left-hand corner which is indecipherable.
The Berlin Fire Hall was located at 22 Frederick Street between Duke and King Streets, in Berlin (now Kitchener), Ontario.
This postcard print is in poor condition. There are thumb-tack holes and the print is rippled and cracked, with some tears and spotting.
