The photograph might have been taken in France, as the reverse of the postcard bears French text only. Frederick Christian Luft is in the back row, sixth from the right hand side. Fred Christian Luft, born 17 February 1897 in Berlin, Ont., was the son of Julius and Susanna (Hopp) Luft. Fred attended Kitchener Collegiate Institute from 1910 to 1912. He enlisted on 17 April 1916 with the 118th Battalion. He married Emma Hiller in 1921. Fred died in 1966. This photograph is part of the "Waterloo County Soldier Portraits" group.

He enlisted on 17 April 1916 with the 118th Battalion. He married Emma Hiller in 1921. Fred died in 1966. The photograph is in fair condition. There is a partial tear and crease on the left hand side of the image. The photograph has been cut out of a scrapbook and has black cardstock partially covering the back. This photograph is part of the "Waterloo County Soldier Portraits" group.

The postcard has several creases and a tear in the lower right hand corner.

The only identified individual is Fred Luft. He is sixth from the right, in the back row. Private Fred Christian Luft enlisted at Kitchener on April 17, 1916. He was a born in Canada, the son of Julius Luft, 28 Spring St., Kitchener. He attended Kitchener Collegiate Institute from 1910 to 1912. The location of this photograph is not known. The image is a copy made of an original; the white border has a few light marks & slightly worn corners. The photograph was developed on heavy paper which has rippled.

Frederick Christian Luft, born 17 February 1897 in Berlin, Ont., enlisted on 17 April 1916 with the 118th Battalion. Fred attended Kitchener Collegiate Institute from 1910 to 1912. He married Emma Hiller in 1921. He died in 1966. Herbert John Luft was born on 6 Sept 1895 in Berlin, ON. He enlisted on 26 Feb 1918 with the Fourth Infantry Division and transferred to the Machine Gun Corps while in France. He married Irene Steinke, had one child and lived at 175 Waterloo Street in Kitchener, ON. Herbert died in 1953. Fred and Herbert were sons of Julius Luft, who lived at 28 Spring Street, Berlin, Ont. This photograph is part of the "Waterloo County Soldier Portraits" group.
