He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Gemwood, 152 Francis street, Preston. He was born in Preston on Dec. 29, 1919, and received his education in Preston. Before enlisting he was em0loyed at the Savage Shoe Co. He is now stationed near the Atlantic coast. Two uncles served in the last war. His religion is Anglican.

Lawless, John F. (clipping) Mar 8, 1945 Another Listowel soldier, Lieut. J.F. Lawless, has received wounds to the right hip and right little finger caused by a shell fragment, his wife, the former Kathleen Bremner, has been informed. The young officer is the son of Mr. and Mrs. William Bremner. (clipping) March 15 by Record Correspondent LISTOWELL, Mrs. J. F. Lawless, Listowel, received word yesterday that her husband, Lieut. John Franklin Lawless, has again been wounded in action, becoming seriously ill the same day. The injury, which is the second sustained by the young officer within 15 days, is described as "bullet wound through the right chest." Two weeks ago Mrs. Lawless was advised that her husband had received bomb fragment wounds to his right thing and right little finger. In a letter written in hospital on March 1 he said his leg was still stiff and sore but he was expecting that he would be put back in action with his former regiment, and several days later wrote he had rejoined his unit. He has been in battle on German soil. Born and reared near Moorefiled, he is a son of Mr. and Mrs. William Lawless. He atteded school at Drayton and later went to collegiate and normal school at Stratford. He tuaght school in Moorefiled and for two years prior to enlisting was principal of Belwood Continuation School. Enlisting June 29, 1940 with the 16-43rd Battery, R.C.A. at Guelph, he trained at Ottawa, Petawawa and the east coast, proceeding overseas in July, 1942 on an officers' training course at Brockville, he was commissioned on Nov. 7, 1942. He was chosen as instructor for 92 Artillery Training Camp at Petawawa where he remained until February, 1944. On returning overseas he was given special training as an infantry officer. He first saw action in Belgium and more recently in Holland and Germany. Lieut. Lawless and his wife, the former Kathleen Bremner of Listowel have one son, Jerald Franklin, age eight months. (clipping) March 19, 1945 by Record Correspondent LIEUT. J.F. LAWLESS LISTOWEL, March 19. - Mrs. John F. Lawless, whose husband was reported wounded for the second time with 15 days and who became seriously ill the date of second casualy, has received information from Ottawa that he is making favorable progress and was removed from the seriously list on March 12. His wound was described as a "bullet wound through right chest."
