Anderson, T.R. See also Aksim, Victor E. [clipping] 5 Oct 1940 T.R. Anderson [image] Corporal T.R. (Shorty) Anderson enlisted on July 25, 1940, with the 24th Field Ambulance, R.C.A.M.C. Before going on active service he was a baker at Polly Perkins. Cpl. Anderson was born at Donegal, Ont., and he received his schooling in Atwood. He is stationed at Listowel, Bennett Barracks, where he is the first cook in the Officers' Mess. Cpl. Anderson lived in Galt a couple of years and is well known in Preston. He goes by the nickname of "Shorty." His wife and four daughters are living at 19 Kerr street. Photo Contributed.

Ashcroft, William [clipping] 12 October 1944 PTE. WILLIAM ASHCROFT Pte. Ashcroft suffered a triple fracture of the jaw when he was hit by a sniper in Italy on Sept. 18. He is recovering in a hospital somewhere in Italy. Born in Guelph, Pte. Ashcroft attended school in the city, and is well known here. His brother, Pte. Jack, also in the canadian Army, was born in Kitchener. Their father, Pte. Arthur Ashcroft, is stationed at Kingston with the Ordnance Corps. Pte. William Ashcroft enlisted with the 7th Field Ambulance early in 1941, and went overseas the latter part of that year, transferring to the 48th Highlanders, with whom he was fighting when he was wounded.

Albert E. Atkinson [image] 6 Oct 1944 Pte. Atkinson wounded [clipping] Kitchener Record 4 Oct 1944 Pte. Albert Eric Atkinson, son of the late Robert Atkinson and Mrs. S. Umbach, Ernst St., Elmira, is reported wounded in action on Sept. 16, presumably France. His wife received a cable from Ottawa yesterday. Pte. Atkinson was born in Peel Township on April 4, 1921, and received his schooling in Woolwich. He joined the army Dec. 14, 1942, and was given final training at Ipperwash and on both the east and west coasts with the Rocky Mountain Rangers. He arrived overseas June 1, 1944. He married the former Grace Stroh, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Stroh, east of Elmira on Nov. 20, 1943. The only letter Pte. Atkinson's family have had from France was dated Sept. 3, shortly after his arrival in that country. [clipping] Kitchener Record 28 Oct 1944 Word was received last night that Pte. Atkinson has died as a result of his injuries , on Oct. 3. He is the son of Mrs. S. Umbach, Ernst St., Elmira, and the late Mr. Robert A. Atkinson. Pte. Atkinson was wounded the first time on Sept. 16. He received hospital treatment, and a rest and returned to the lines, it is understood. Born in Peel Township April 4, 1921, he joined the army Dec. 4, 1942, and trained at Camp Ipperwash, as well as on the east and west coasts. He arrived overseas June 1, of this year. Surviving are his wife, the former Grace Stroh, whom he married about a year ago. His mother, Mrs. Umbach, survives, two brothers, Kenneth, of Elmira and Norman of Alma and a sister, Mrs. Milton (Olive) Lasch, Elmira. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Nov. 5, at 2:30p.m., in St. James' Lutheran Church with Rev. L. H. Kalbfleisch officiating.

Bailey, Lawrence. There brothers, Lawrence, 24, and Leslie, 18, enlisted in different units. Lawrence enlisted with the 1st Hussars and was later transferred to the R.C.A.S.C. Leslie is with the Perth Machine Gun Regiment. They are sons of the late Harold Bailey and Mrs. Bailey, 24 Cambridge street. Both were born in Galt and both attended St. Andrew's school. Lawrence worked at the Canadian General Rubber Co. plant before enlisting and Leslie at Sandilands Valve Co. They attended Trinity Anglican church. Their father and three uncles served in the first Great War. Photos Contributed

Bailey, Wilbert Rudolph Pay Sergeant. Enlisted with 118th Battalion at Kitchener, November 26, 1915. He is the son of Mrs. Clara Bailey, of Waterloo. He was born in Canada and received his education in Kitchener. Methodist. He transferred from the 118th Battalion to 25th Reserve Battalion to 26th Reserve at Bramshott and to the Young Soldiers' Battalion. He was born in 1893 and married Lilian Dorothy Walker. He went to London on May 22, 1916, moved to Camp Borden July 9, 1916, returned to London November 9, 1916. Then he went to Halifax, N.S. on January 26, 1917. He camped at Bramshott and Rhyl North Wales. He worked on the Canadian Army Pay Corps. He was discharged in London and is living in Preston, Ontario, Box. 106. Bertha Crawley, Preston, Ontario.
