A black and white photograph of people standing in front of a store on King Street in Berlin (now Kitchener), Ontario. The stores in photo have been identified; left to right: William Younge's store, Fusch Block, Red Lion Hotel, Jacob Gaukel's meat shop, and the Henry B. Bowman Block.
The source of the photo is "Berlin to-day: official souvenir 1806-1906".
Date indicated on reverse of photo is 1856. However, based on from information found in the book "Hannes Schneider and His Descendants" (page 250B) and from Waterloo Historical Society annual 1978 volume (pages 91-92), this date is wrong. The actual date of the photo is probably circa 1865 when the Fusch's block was erected.
This photo is in good condition, with creases.
