The Kaufman Rubber Company was founded by Jacob Kaufman in 1907. The Kaufman plant opened in 1908 with 350 employees. Alvin Ratz Kaufman, son of Jacob Kaufman, who had trained in his father's firm, Merchant Rubber, from 1903 to 1907, supervised the building of the first section of this factory.
In 1964, the company changed its name to Kaufman Footwear Limited.
