PTE. WILLIAM ASHCROFT
Pte. Ashcroft suffered a triple fracture of the jaw when he was hit by a sniper in Italy on Sept. 18. He is recovering in a hospital somewhere in Italy. Born in Guelph, Pte. Ashcroft attended school in the city, and is well known here.
His brother, Pte. Jack, also in the canadian Army, was born in Kitchener. Their father, Pte. Arthur Ashcroft, is stationed at Kingston with the Ordnance Corps.
Pte. William Ashcroft enlisted with the 7th Field Ambulance early in 1941, and went overseas the latter part of that year, transferring to the 48th Highlanders, with whom he was fighting when he was wounded.
