Former Kitchener Flier Badly Hurt
Big Bomber Crashes On Return to England
PRESTON, Oct. 29 – Sgt.-Pilot Gordon D. Anderson of Galt, formerly of Kitchener, was seriously injured in a flying
accident in England, according to a cable received by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Anderson, Church street, Preston,
formerly of Kitchener.
In the same accident, Sgt.-Observer L. Rowe of Guelph, a flying companion and chum of Anderson’s, was instantly killed.
The plane, a Wellington bomber, was returning from a raid over Europe. Bad weather was blamed for the crash.
Mr. Anderson immediately cabled a brother in England when he was advised of the crash. Today he received a reply stating
that Gordon is doing fine.
Sgt.-Pilot Anderson enlisted in Sept. 1940 and received his wings in April at Mossbank Sask. In letters to his parents,
he told of taking part in many raids over enemy territory.
He was born in Guelph and attended the Kitchener-Waterloo Collegiate. He worked of the Bell Telephone in Kitchener and
later in Galt. He is a member of the First United church, Waterloo.
His parents recently moved to Preston from Kitchener.
