Capt. William M. Bean, 30, was killed in action, according to information received by his wife, 44 Young St. W. Waterloo. A former alderman he served the town during 1939 and 1940.
In the latter year he enlisted with the Scots Fusiliers and was sent to Woodstock as an instructor. Susequently he was commanding officer here of a driving and maintenance school for the C.W.A.C.
Going overseas about a year ago, he saw action in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. It is presumed that he met his death in Germany in the present push.
Born in Waterloo, he was the son of the late R.S. and Mrs. Bean. He attended public schools in Waterloo, the K-W Collegiate and Waterloo College. Capt. Bean attended the First United Church.
Before enlistment he was secretary-treasurer of the David Bean and Sons Ltd., a Waterloo publishing company.
Surviving are his wife, Marjorie, his mother, two sons and a daughter and four brothers. Surgeon Lieut-Cmdr. David, E.M., John M, and Roy M. Bean.
