PROMOTED IN ITALY
Capt. Bier, according to information received by his parents, had been wounded June 24 but remained on duty with his unit, despite his injuries, and met his death a few days later.
He was recently promoted to the rank of captain for his heroic action in the battle of Italy.
Capt. Bier had seen action in both Sicily and Italy and has been on the fighting front for one year, being an officer in the Three Rivers Regiment with the famous 8th Army.
Enlisting in the Canadian Armored Corps, London, June 1942, on the completion of his third year at the University of Western Ontario, Capt. Bier took his officer’s training at Brockville and Camp Borden. He left for overseas with rank of lieutenant, Dec. 30, 1942.
Born in Wilmot Township, Capt. Bier came to New Hamburg with his parents when six years of age. He received his early education in New Hamburg and his high school education at the K-W Collegiate. He was taking an honor business administration course at the University of Western Ontario at the time of his enlistment.
