This barn was built in 1824 by John C. Snyder. John Snyder was born 1 February 1792 in Franklin County, Pennsylvania. His family emigrated to Canada in 1804 and settled in the Doon area. In 1814, John married Catherine Snyder and in 1823, the couple purchased 287 acres of land from John's father, Christian Snyder. On their newly acquired property, they built the barn shown in the image and a family residence.
In 1974, this barn was the property of O.A. Snyder and Sons. O.A. Snyder was the great grandson of John Snyder.
This photograph appears on page 31 of the 1974 Waterloo Historical Society annual volume with F.W.R. Dickson credited as photographer.
