This house, located in the Blair Village Heritage Conservation District, was once occupied by the township reeve, James Johannes. It was built in 1817 by the brothers, L. and E. Bechtel, and is also known as the Jacob Bechtel House.
The smaller stone cottage shown on the right side of the image was built in 1805 and was used by the Bechtel brothers prior to the construction of the larger home. According to a Hamilton Spectator article dated 3 November 1962, the stone cottage was converted into a ranch style home in the 1950's.
