Private Albert Bishop was born in Brockley, Suffolk, England on October 21, 1883. The son of Alice Bishop, he immigrated to Canada in 1911. Albert lived in the village of Haysville in Wilmot Township. He worked as a farm labourer and was active in the militia when he enlisted for the war in Toronto on April 12, 1915 with the 35th regiment.
Private Albert Bishop was discharged on 22 August 1918 in Toronto as medically unfit due to damage to his right shoulder sustained during his military service in England and France. His address on discharge was 97 Lyall Avenue, Toronto, Ontario. Later in 1919, he provided the address, 209 Borden St., Toronto, for his war service gratuity.
According to his medical papers, he married on 17 January 1918 in Richmond, Surrey, England. His wife's name is listed as Elizabeth Kathleen Bishop.
He did not die in combat as indicated by the red cross on the card.
