Leon Adrien Aurelien Cattin was born in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Canton Neuchâtel, Switzerland on May 16, 1891. As a 13 year old, he apprenticed as a pastry chef. By the time he was 19, he was living in London, England. In 1913, he sailed from Liverpool to Portland, Maine on the Dominion. He moved to Toronto shortly thereafter, then later to Hamilton.
At the time of his enlistment on January 22, 1917, Leon was living at 565 Mary St N.,Hamilton. His regimental number was 225390. While overseas, Leon was injured and spent time in Buxton's Granville Canadian Special Hospital. Upon returning to Canada, he was sent to Toronto's Sunnybrook Hospital for further rehabilitation because of a gunshot wound to his arm.
Leon married Ada Pittock of Plattsville on March 3, 1920 and they began farming near Bright, ON. They had 2 daughters, Jeanetta Drobot (London, ON) and Eva Lock (Woodstock). From 1943 to the late 1960s, Leon was a coal merchant and then he operated a shoe repair shop in Bright. For many years he and Ada were Bright correspondents for the Ayr News. He died on April 1, 1975.
He is buried in the Chesterfield Cemetery, north of Bright.
