Corporal Wallace Ephraim Dance was drafted under the Military Service Act of 1917. He enlisted in Paris, Ontario in October of 1917, but he wasn't called up to service until May 8, 1918, at the age of 20. At the time of his military service, he was single. Having lost his mother several years earlier, his next of kin was his father, James Dance. He was Presbyterian.
Wallace was born in Ayr, Ontario on September 16, 1897 to James and Janet Dodds Hall. He was the oldest of five Dance children. Like his father, Wallace was a farmer by trade, working on the family farm near Ayr before the war. After his discharge from military service, he had his own farm and lived near Blenheim. His father and siblings lived close by, after his father remarried.
Later, Wallace married Mildred Hughes, and the couple eventually settled near Bright, Ontario. It is not known if they had any children. Wallace died in 1981 and is buried in the Ayr cemetery.
