Leonard Darlow enlisted with the 118th Battalion in Kitchener on December 3, 1915. He was a sapper.
He was born in London, England, on April 19, 1897, to Amy Darlow. At the age of 13, he lived in a boys' home run by the Church of England. At age 15, he was one of many English children sent to Canada "under the auspices of the Church of England Society" to a home for British Home Children in Sherbrooke, Quebec.
At the time of his enlistment, he worked as a farmer in Linwood, Ontario. After the war, he married Ella Margaret Schaeffer on August 4, 1919, and settled in Elmira, where he worked as a cabinet maker. He and his wife settled in Strathroy, Ontario, where they raised two daughters, Evelyn and Winnifred, and a son, Harold. He was employed for many years by the Strathroy Public Utilities Commission, and was heavily involved in community work surrounding recreation facilities for the town's youth.
Mr. Darlow died on October 15, 1950, and is buried in the Strathroy Cemetery.
