Private William Arthur Crump was born in Walthamstow, England on 12 July 1894, the second son of Clara Tonks and Alfred George Crump. The family immigrated to Canada in 1905, residing for several years in Hamilton, Ontario before moving to Galt, Ontario.
On 25 October 1914 William enlisted with the 18th Battalion at Galt, Ontario, regimental number 53899. He was single, a labourer, and his religion was Church of England. His father Alfred George was next of kin. Prior to enlisting, he was active in the Militia with the 29th. William served overseas for 5 years and three months. His father and brother also served in WWI.
By 1921 William a labourer, had married Anne Florence Davies and was living in North Dumfries Township, Ontario. By 1928 he, his wife, two sons and daughter moved to Burnt River where he worked in the lead mines for six months.
By the end of 1928, William was living in Fenelon Falls, Ontario where he started working as an electrician at the power house. While on a visit to his parent's home at 35 Norfolk Avenue, Galt, Ontario, William died unexpectedly on 1 May 1929. William is buried at Mount View Cemetery, Galt, Ontario.
