Private James McIntyre Dollar was born on Feb. 12th 1871, in Spring Well, England. When he was young he came to Canada and lived in Galt, Ontario with his sister, Sarah Dogden. He worked at the Galt Brass Company, Ltd. Later he moved to Vancouver, British Columbia. Prior to enlisting he was also a part of the 29th Galt Volunteers.
He enlisted at Vancouver, British Columbia on June 23rd 1917, though at the time he was living in California. At the time of enlistment he was missing two fingers on his left hand. Originally he was assigned to the Canadian Forestry Corps, but was later assigned to Railway Construction. He was wounded in the war.
After the war James returned to Vancouver, but immigrated to California, U.S.A. He later became a naturalized citizen of the United States. He died in Los Angeles, California on Nov. 11th 1948.
