Private Christie (Christopher, Chris) Black enlisted on September 8, 1915 at Camp Sewell, Manitoba. His reg. no. was 424583 and his religion was listed at Church of England. He joined the 45th Battalion from Brandon, Manitoba. They embarked from Halifax on March 17, 1916 aboard the Lapland and disembarked on March 25, 1916 in England. They were absorbed by the 11th Canadian Reserve Battalion on July 7, 1916.
Christie Black was born on December 23, 1897 in Dublin, Ireland. He sailed to Canada on July 29, 1909 from Liverpool aboard the Tunisian arriving in Quebec city on August 6, 1909. Christie was part of the Smyly Home group of children destined for the Coombe Home in Hespeler, Ontario.
In the 1911 census, Christie was listed as a servant on a farm in Waterloo township. On enlistment in 1915, he stated he was a farm labourer and that his birthdate was December 23, 1895, although his actual birth year was 1897.
Christie had a brother named David Black who emigrated to the Coombe Home in Hespeler in 1907. David(reg.no.928111) enlisted on December 28, 1915 at Guelph Ontario.
