Corporal Henry Charles Brade was born in Sanco, England on October 17, 1883. He was married to Ethel Brade. When they moved to Canada from England they settled in Galt at 73 Chalment St. Galt. He was a member of Trinity Church in Galt. Prior to enlisting in the army Mr. Brade was a machinest by trade.
He enlisted to the Army on September 15th, 1914. His unit was the Canadian Infantry; Western Ontario Regiment. He was part of the 1st Battalion and his service number was 6997. Mr. Brade had prior military service before enlisting in the army. He spent 2 years in the 29th regiment and 7 years as part of the Sanco Fusiliers. Mr. Brade served overseas.
He died April 22, 1915 and his cause of death is classified as 'Died in War, cause unkown'. It is likely that he died at the Battle of Ypres as his name is on the Menin Gate (Ypres) Memorial in Belgium. His grave reference at the Menin Gate (Ypres) Memorial is Panel 10-26-28. He was 32 at the time of his death. His name is on the Galt War Memorial.
