Private William Henderson Bremner was the son of George Bremner and Jane Ann "Jennie" Henderson. Born in Berlin, Ontario on April 14, 1890. He was of Presbyterian faith.
William married Minnie Smith on March 15, 1910 in Berlin. At the time he was a shoemaker. In 1912 he travelled to the USA and was a builder, and identified as having a Scottish background. On his passenger manifest to the US, he notes his address as 102 Lancaster St. W in Berlin. William and Minnie had 3 children, Hilda, Mabel and George, all born before the war.
He enlisted April 12 1916 at Berlin. His attestation papers list Minnie as his next of kin who was originally listed as living at 135 Ahrens Street, but then moved to 56 Krug Street. He was 5 feet, 6 1/2 inches tall, with a ruddy complexion, brown hair and blue eyes. He was noted as a rubber worker, and had previously served 7 months with the 108th Regiment. He was 5 feet, 6 inches tall, with a clear complexion, light hazel eyes and light brown hair.
After the war, William returned home to his family and at the time of the 1921 census of Canada, William and his family were living in South Montreal (4A Prefontaine Street) where William worked as a Pattern Maker. They must have moved back to Ontario by 1930 - in this year they lost their daughter Mabel, aged 18 years, and she is buried in the Woodstock Presbyterian Cemetery.
William and Minnie are buried in the same cemetery, William passed away in 1960 and Minnie in 1984.
