Private John Joseph Burgetz was born in Kitchener, Ontario on November 11, 1895 to Allan Burgetz and Julia Catherine Weinstein of R.R.#3, Kitchener, Ontario.
He was drafted January 7, 1918. At the time he was a single Mennonite and a farmer, still living at his family's farm. His next of kin was his father Allan. He had a medium complexion, brown eyes and brown hair. He was only 5 feet, 1/4 inch tall. His military service act letter and number were 741043 AC.
After the war, he married Lucinda Buehler on February 11, 1925 in Bloomingdale. The two had five children: Margaret, Alice, Reginald, Harold and Kenneth. John and Lucinda operated a gardening business and had a stand at the Kitchener Farmer's Market.
He passed away sometime after Lucinda did (1958) and they are buried at the Memorial Gardens near Breslau, Ontario.
