Lieutenant Benjamin Burnham was born 11 April 1881 at Cranbrook, Kent, England, the son of Anne Sophia Suitters and James Burnham.
Benjamin enlisted on 3 April 1916 at Waterloo, Ontario with the 118th Battalion and assigned the Regimental number 751618 with a rank of Lieutenant. At the time of enlistment he was residing at 41 Tuerk St., Berlin (Kitchener), Ontario with his wife Elizabeth, who was named as his next of kin. Benjamin was 34 years and 11 months old, a bricklayer by occupation, 5' 6" tall with a 33" chest, medium complexion, blue eyes, brown hair, a Methodist and had the letters BB tattooed on his right forearm. On 3 April 1917, Lieutenant Benjamin Burnham was transferred from the 118th Battalion to the 256th Battalion.
In June 1906 Benjamin a mechanic by trade, married Elizabeth Lee at Toronto. By 1921 Benjamin and Elizabeth were residing at 170 Queen Street South, Kitchener, Ontario.
