Private Fred Callan was born March 27, 1885 in London, England, the son of Frederick and Elizabeth Callan. He immigrated to Canada in 1910.
While living in Preston he enlisted in Toronto on February 26, 1916 with the 216th Battalion. His regiment number was 273035. He was single. The 216th Battalion sailed on the SS Scandinavian out of Halifax to England on April 18, 1917.
He married Lillian Rose Smith in Galt on June 22, 1920 and relocated to Detroit, Michigan where he died on November 11, 1936.
