Private John Carpenter was born on 8 Jan. 1879 in Brighton, Sussex, England. At the time of his enlistment, John was married to Alice Maud Carpenter and living in Ayr, ON. He and Alice had three children, Charles, John and Frank. His religion was listed as Church of England, and his trade as machinist.
John Carpenter enlisted with the 111th Battalion at Galt, ON on 1 Feb. 1916. His regimental number was 730452. On 9 Sept. 1916, he sailed from Halifax on the SS Tuscania. John gave his life in action during the Battle of Passchendaele on 7 Nov. 1917, while serving with the 4th Battalion.
