Private Michael John French was born July 3, 1896 in Dublin, Ireland to William French and Mary Murphy. Aged 10 years, Michael came to Canada with the Smyly Trust aboard the Tunisian leaving Liverpool, England on May 2, 1907 and arriving in Quebec City on May 11, 1907.
Prior to the war, Michael farmed in the Hespeler area. He was Presbyterian.
Michael French was drafted under Military Service Act 1917 to 1st Depot Battalion W.O.R., London, Ontario. He completed the medical exam on October 24, 1917 and was called up on May 20, 1918, reg. #3135970.
After the war, he rented a farm in Puslinch Township, South Wellington. On January 24, 1923, Michael French married Marjorie Marie Hodgson. Michael French had a brother, Joseph Thomas, who lived at 197 Gordon St., Guelph, Ontario and two sisters, Christina French of 52 Upper Leeson St., Dublin, Ireland and Julia Catherine French.
He died on February 14, 1967.
