A black and white photograph showing Queen Street, South, Kitchener, Ontario in 1943. The images shows Dettmer Tire, 69 Queen St. S., on the left hand side. Several store and shop fronts can be seen along each side of the street. A car, facing the camera, is parked in front of Dettmer Tire. Several cars are parked on the right hand side of the street, facing away from the camera. A couple standing on the sidewalk and a man on a bike near the back end of a car, can be seen across from Dettmer Tire. Two young men stand at the corner of the Dettmer building on the left hand side. A uniformed police man and another young man stand on the sidewalk in front of Dettmer Tire.
The image is reported to show the spot where nine year old, Lloyd Ruebell, of 57 Scott Street, Kitchener, was hit by a city owned bus on Queen Street South, opposite Dettmer Tire, on 14 October 1943. He later died that day, of his injuries at St. Mary's Hospital. Lloyd was the son of Lloyd Lorne Ruebell, a well-known local sportsman and hockey player. He had been staying with his grandmother, Mrs. Albert Ruthig, while his parents were out of town. Lloyd had been home for lunch at his grandmother's home and was on his way to Victoria School when the accident occurred.
