Pte F. A. Dane
Listowel, Oct. 20.-Mr. and Mrs. James A. Dane, Listowel, were notified yesterday that their 19-year-old son, Pte. Frederick A. Dane has been officially reported wounded in action on Oct. 13. No information was given concerning the nature and extent of his injuries.
The young lad enlisted at London in December, 1941, and went overseas last spring. After arriving in England he continued his training, taking a sniping and scouting course. He went to France as a member of the Black Watch Regiment, and his last letter, dated Oct. 2nd, was headed "somewhere in Belgium." This letter indicated that he was enjoying a rest from battle. He wrote that it seemed good "not to be out there dodging shells."
Born Nov. 29, 1924 at Elrose, Sask., he came with his parents to a farm near Fordwich in 1937. He attended the Fordwich Public School for a few years, and later was employed by the Fordwich Cheese Factory.
Two brothers, John Laird Dane and James Herbert Dane, served with the armed forces for some time, but have both been discharged.
