According to Hamilton Spectator newspaper articles dated 24 November 1962 and 19 December 1953, Mr. Norman S. Laing took over ownership of the Branchton Centre Store in 1909 from his father, Michael Laing. After Norman Laing's death, his daugther, Marion, continued to run the store until 1956, when she sold it to Mr. and Mrs. William Bell.
