Private William Charles Baldwin was born in Great Malvern, Worcestershire England July 23, 1890 to Ernest E. and Catherine Baldwin.
William immigrated to Canada June 1910 on the ship Corsican with his parents. Their destination was Toronto, Ontario. Once in Canada, William made his way to Galt, Ontario and worked as a labourer. Five years later, William enlisted in Galt with the 71st Battalion.
William's attestation papers stated that there was no next of kin and William was still single. The brown haired, blue eyed, 5 ft. 6 1/2 inch tall, 25 year old soldier went off to England to fight for his country.
