Private Alan McDonald was the son of Frederick E. and Catherine L. McDonald, of 26 Cameron St., Galt, Ontario. He was born on June 6, 1897 in London, England.
He enlisted in Galt on November 19, 1915 with the 111th Battalion. At the time of his enlistment, he was an electrician, single and a member of the Church of England. He resided at 256 Main St., East, Galt, Ontario. Alan had also served with the 29th Regiment previously. His regimental service number was 730072.
Overseas, Private McDonald served with 75th Battalion, Canadian Infantry. He was killed in action in an attack on Vimy Ridge on April 9, 1917.
He was buried in the Canadian Cemetery No.2, Neuville-St. Vaast, France.
