Private Alfred George Crump was born 11 May 1861 in Gloucester, England. On enlistment, he stated his year of birth as 1872. George was the son of Maria Eleanore Geraldy and Frances Charles Crump.
In 1892, George married Clara A. Tonks in England. They had three sons and a daughter. Two sons also served in WWI. George and family immigrated to Canada in 1905, residing for several years in Hamilton, Ontario, before moving to Galt, Ontario. In 1911 George was a labourer residing in Galt, Ontario. In 1914 the family were living at North Water Street, Galt, Ontario.
George enlisted on 17 October 1916 at Toronto, Ontario with the 216th Battalion C.E.F. Bantams, regimental number 273852. He was a labourer, residing in Galt, Ontario, married, Church of England and next of kin his wife Clara of Galt, Ontario.
By 1921 George was residing in North Dumfries, Ontario. By 1929 the family had returned to Galt, Ontario residing at 35 Norfolk Avenue.
On 27 April 1940 after being struck by a C.N.R. train at the Hespeler Road and Highway 24 crossing George died of his injuries. He was interred at Mount View Cemetery in Galt, Ontario.
