Captain Harry Roberts Conway was born in Hespeler on 21 June 1893, he was the son of John Dumas Conway and Mary Jane Roberts. Harry's brother, John Dumas Conway, served as a gunner in the Royal Canadian Horse Artillery. His sister, Bessie Doreen Conway, became a music teacher.
Harry attended the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario which was affiliated to the University of Toronto. He earned a degree of Doctor of Dental Surgery and on his attestation paper his occupation was Dental Surgeon.
Harry enlisted in the Canadian Army Dental Corps on 31 March 1916. In his enlistment papers Harry gives his religion as Methodist and he is described as being 5'5" with a dark complexion, greyish brown eyes, and dark brown hair. Harry's enlistment papers note that he had previous military experience having been in the Canadian Officer's Training Corps. He was a Private in March 1916; promoted to Sergeant in April 1916; went overseas October 1916, attached to the Canadian Field Artillery; promoted to Captain February 1917; served in France, November 1918 with the No.4 Canadian Field Ambulance.
On 1 Aug 1923 Harry married Abigail Derbyshire, a nurse. In 1940 Harry and Abigail were living at 421 St. Clements Ave., Eglinton, Toronto. In 1957 the couple are listed as living at 13 Puleston St., Brantford, Ontario. Harry and Abigail may have had at least one child, a daughter, Patricia Anne Conway, born 1929, married name Horbay).
Harry, Abigail, and Patricia Anne, along with his parents John Dumas and Mary Jane, are all buried in the New Hope Cemetery at 235 Cooper St. in Hespeler. Harry died in 1963 in Brantford, Abigail died in 1979, and Patricia Anne died in 1990.
