A black and white photograph of a group of business men gathered in front of a Lake Erie and Northern Railway passenger car which is stopped in front of the Berlin (Kitchener) Light Commission office, located at 169 King Street West, near Gaukel Street. The men are gathered to board the "Elmira to Erie" train, which is traveled to Port Dover on Tuesday 16 October 1917.
The excursion was organized by the local Board of Trade and Kitchener Manufacturers Association to explore the possibile development of Port Dover as a commercial freight port, connected to the Lake Erie and Northern Railway line. The train traveled from Elmira and then stopped in Kitchener to pick up this group of businessmen. The excursion was reported in the 16 and 17 October 1917 editions of the Kitchener News Record and the 16 and 19 October 1917 editions of the Kitchener Daily Telegraph.
